Blintzes?

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Sunday morning Paul and I decide to go out for coffee and pancakes.  We sit down at one of our usual cafes.  We open the menu to look for pancakes, to our horror there are no English translations to be seen (there usually is).  Instead we find the Russian word  with a transliteration underneath- Blintzes ???.  This gave us no clue to what the menu list was.  It could have been raw pig fat and liver for all we knew.  I take out my trusty Russian & English dictionary to look up the word.  Yes we have pancakes!!  Crisis avoided.  I enjoyed having cherry and chocolate pancakes for breakfast.

A Cane (not the candy kind)

As you may have heard, I injured the ligaments in my knee in April (it’s very easy to fall down here).  The good news is that it’s getting better.  I am now using a walking cane instead of crutches.  This also means no operation!  Today was the last day of school, so we are planning for our summer holidays.  We will be visiting Uncle Scott in Berlin, Paris and provincial France, then on to Milan.  So we are looking forward to that.  It will be much easier moving around with my cane than with crutches (also handy for hailing a taxi).
