Demel Indulgence

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

What better way to end a shopping high than with a scrumptious treat.  Demel is one of the oldest Cafes sweets and chocolate makers in Vienna.   On recommendation of the lady who works there,  I had a  rose macaroon, with cream and lychee center, embraced by raspberries.  I paused, took my time to appreciate every mouthful.

Petite Pastries

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Every town in France seemed to have a a Bakery (the French really are passionate about their baguettes), and sometimes patisserie with a trained artisan.  In the town of Thiers we found one such place.  So for breakfast we bought a tray of petite pastries and desserts. Each one was magnificent.  The combination of quality ingredients and expertise was a delight to the taste buds.

Chocolate Dreams

The range of Lint chocolate avaliable at the Galeries Lafyete was quite amazing.  Needless to say I was as happy as a chocoholic can be in such situations.  So I purchased    one block of Darck lint chocolate with lavender and Blueberries.  It was truly lovely.

Sweet as Cherry Tart

Lauren Swanson\'s cherry tarts

I faced quite a challenge.  What do do with the left over cherries?  Why make a breakfast to remember of course.  I bought pastry from the super market and cut the circles of pastry out and placed them into a greased muffin tray.  Next I brushed melted butter over the pastry of each tart.   I cut and de-seeded the cherries, and placed them on the pastry, lightly drizzle fine strands of honey over the cherries.  Bake in the oven.  When they came out of the oven, I drizzled 25yr old balsamic vinegar over the top.  Serve with a esspresso.  A Divine Breakfast.

Lauren Swanson and her berries

The start of summer is the season for berries.  Wow.  The best part is being able to buy a whole tub of fresh sweet rasberries and some juicy white cherries.  This makes for one happy lady! Chow down.

I just had to give making pasta a try.  Ottimo! (Excellent)  I really enjoyed the process of kneading and stretching the dough.  A wonderful basic to master, using a glass bottle worked really well.

Spot the Difference

img_1768.jpg

One is a local peanut butter, of low quality and as sweet as nutella, the other is  imported from the states and tastes like the real thing… Spot the difference.

I was in shear desperation, with 6 months with out real peanut butter  I took to buying the local stuff and stirring in salt.  Yet I was not satisfied.  Till a freind at work “aquired” some for us!!  It was great.  Now I can have a peice of vegimite toast in one hand peanut butter in the other.  I’m a happy lady.
