Maiden

The maiden of Kiev stands with steadfast gaze toward mother Russia. I’m told it’s a gesture of goodwill, or as much, but a gigantic metal woman, brandishing a sword, sends me other signals. Perhaps I’m yet to get the whole Slavic ‘thing’.

Beef Fajitas with Chipotle Rice

Beef Fajitas

Sort of. Despite the mirky opening line this is a delicious meal you should really try. I’m hesitant to define a beef fajita by this recipe when my total experience of such cuisine is limited to TGI Friday’s, nonetheless, this both resembles a TGIF fajita in form, and flavour, and was a perfect way to celebrate the fortuitous discovery of some quality beef steak.

Of recent times I’ve been given to the dark art of reading, that is to say, actually reading, from a computer screen. A little vocalised, but otherwise immutable fact, is that reading from a computer screen is unpleasant, on account of the luminescent, backlit nature of all computer screens. Cutting this already ambling account short, I was playing around with the Adobe Reader preferences and discovered that on my Macbook the default text smoothing setting was for that of a CRT monitor, not indeed an LCD screen. Two clicks later and my electronic edition of Dicken’s ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ was looking decidedly clearer.
