Sort of. Despite the mirky opening line this is a delicious meal you should really try. I’m hesitant to define a beef fajita by this recipe when my total experience of such cuisine is limited to TGI Friday’s, nonetheless, this both resembles a TGIF fajita in form, and flavour, and was a perfect way to celebrate the fortuitous discovery of some quality beef steak.

Of recent times I’ve been given to the dark art of reading, that is to say, actually reading, from a computer screen. A little vocalised, but otherwise immutable fact, is that reading from a computer screen is unpleasant, on account of the luminescent, backlit nature of all computer screens. Cutting this already ambling account short, I was playing around with the Adobe Reader preferences and discovered that on my Macbook the default text smoothing setting was for that of a CRT monitor, not indeed an LCD screen. Two clicks later and my electronic edition of Dicken’s ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ was looking decidedly clearer.

“I love Yulia”. Not me personally, but someone loves Yulia. The writing on the substation wall assures me of someone’s undying love for her. Everyday I pass this grotesque lump of soviet utilitarianism. Who is Yulia? Who loves her? Why can’t this shack be an espresso bar instead?

I was inspired to begin making pizzas again, despite the absence of a pizza oven. Presented with only a large rectangular baking tray I decided I would create a slab of pizza. This recipe is good for feeding, and filling, the troops or providing convenient lunch time left-overs. Yum yum.

The convenient aspect to this dish is that most of the ingredients live happily in your cupboard or fridge until you’re ready to use them, no mad rush to the shops required here.

This car is not making a u-turn. It’s design is such that it can park perpendicular to the curb. This kind of mind-bending efficiency reminds me that Berlin is almost a world away from Kiev, where sidewalks double as traffic lanes.

Yes. Here in Germany, perhaps one of the most civilised places on the planet, one can enjoy Coca-rotgut-Cola from a 500ml glass bottle. Just think, one less bottle destined to plague our descendants as a toxic sludge of former polymers for a thousand years; and of course goes without stating the irrefutable truth that Coke always tastes better from glass. This bottle was later laid to rest in a glass recycling bin conveniently located by the city of Berlin. God bless dem Deutschen volke.

We’re in Berlin over Christmas and I’m starting to think I completely missed my calling in life. The architecture here is amazing. Berlin is an amazing mixture of the old, new and the future. Much of Berlin’s skyline was devastated during the final days of European operations during World War II and since then much has been restored and extended, often with a very modern approach.

This is a fantastically simple and completely yummy pasta dish I serendipitously developed the other night when faced with nothing but 2 tomatoes, pasta and some pork for the evening meal. As usual it’s not ‘what’ but ‘how’ that makes it special.
