A visit to the antiques market

Vintage arms dealer

I recently visited Kiev’s antiques market which is held regularly around the traps. Yeah, sure you can buy old cups, saucers, watches, spoons, paintings, brik-a-brak, various pieces of rust … BUT CHECKOUT THE ARSENAL!

I wonder how much opposition I’d receive from customs whilst bearing an MP38 submachine gun?

MG42 Machine Gun

The venerable MG42 machine gun, with tripod … in working order. This is probably a model from earlier in the war, note the cylindrical magazine, later models were belt fed directly from the ammo box.

The second most powerful machine gun I’ve had the pleasure of drooling over (the first being a .50 cal Browning in the Queensland Museum store room).

German Officers Uniform

I see nozhing, I knowz nozhing … this outfit comes with medals, combat helmet, canteen, potato masher grenade and pistol (monocle not included).

And for all the pacifists, some brik-a-brak …

Brik-a-Brak

And some more old stuff … this next photo nearly got me into a fight. Apparently the brass section is a matter of national security.

Brik-a-Brak

This next one made me wonder who ransacked the cathedral …

Brik-a-Brak

That’s all; till my next visit to your friendly vintage arms dealer.
