Sharp Service

A highlight for Paul was finding the store “The Different Scent”.  This boutique store was a mecca for all things shaving, from cut throats to safety razors this shop had it all.  I was pleased to see Paul enjoying himself so much.  I don’t want to steal his thunder, so for a further account of this experience you will have to check out Paul Swanson’s blog.

Deutsche Bahn

While in Berlin for seven days, Paul and I used the rail as a system of travel.  While very efficient and perfectly engineered, the maze of walkways and change overs can be quite confusing.  Buy the end of the week we mastered the rail system, and could bend it to our will.

Platz On

At AlexanderPlatz Paul and I enjoyed visiting “Galeries Lafayete”.   On entering the store we discover that the whole gallery is divided into gastronomic centres.  Cheese, wine, bread (you get the picture). Of particular interest for Lauren was the Lint chocolate section.   Check out Lauren Swanson’s blog for more detail.

Potsdammer Platz

Welcome to Germany! Our first stop is of course Berlin, Germany. We came here for Christmas and absolutely loved it and now we are back for more. Lauren has family here so we have a lovely place to stay close to all the action. We are planning to spend a week here and then will fly out Wednesday for Paris. The order and precision of Berlin is a nice contrast to the chaos of Kiev and we are lapping it up. Stay tuned for more updates and remember to also check our personal blogs (see the links to the right) for our more stories and pictures.

Our Christmas Highlight

Our christmas highlight was to catch the train from Berlin to Freiberg (the Switzerland of Saxony).  As you can see by the picture we were slumming it all the way.   Who needs first class when you can spend the whole trip in the dinning carriage?  In Freiberg, Scott Paul and I were greeted by Angelo (Scotts mate). What a fantastic three days.

Peace on a Wall of Strife

the-wall.jpg

A remenemt of the Berlin wall, a yellow peace sign on the wall of strife and pain, a love heart as people expressing the longing for family and friends on the other side.   Since the berlin Wall cme down, modern architecture has been built purposefully around the area. Uniting east and west.

As part of our 1st day rampage tour of Berlin, we could not miss the opportunity to  ride a “Ferris Veel”.  The delightful package included Blue blankets, Gluvine and room for a view.  A Spectacular way to see Berlin in all it’s glory.

Our tour of Berlin began at the Beautiful station Haup Bahnhof (the central station of Berlin), with our Uncle Scott (our personal tour guide). We were amazed buy the beautiful architecture, and the efficiency of German rail. It was a holiday for the eyes and soul.
