Each morning at our Hotel Ada, we enjoyed a buffet breakfast and spectacular views of Istanbul, the ocean and the ruins of an Old mosque (as well as the more recent one). Here are a few of breakfast view photos for your enjoyment.

On our way to the Istanbul’s Museum of Archaeology, we happened across this beautiful park, and we were impressed by the trees. Then we made our way to the Archaeology Museums. There are three museums, The Museum of Archaeology, Museum of the Ancient Orient and the Museum of Islamic Art.

The bustling streets of Istanbul are full of interesting characters, things for sale, food and tea…

We walked along the bridge to the other side of the Istanbul peninsular. The bridge was lined with fishermen catching small fish…

Sea legs are required to cook fish for the sandwiches. In a moored boat along side the dock, the chefs barbecue fresh sea fish while remaining standing (which is particularly impressive when a large ship comes past). A perfect last meal in Istanbul on our final day. We love the fish sandwich!

We have been spending our week staying in the historic center of, an otherwise sprawling, Istanbul called Sultanahmet. In addition to the amazing mosques, ancient relics and the history that just seems to ooze out of every corner of a district that has served as the capital of no less than 4 empires, Sultanahmet has some charming back streets. Here are just a few photos from my wander around the neighbourhood this afternoon.

We were looking forward to seeing the architecture of the mosque up close. It was beautiful. Leading up to the entrance (as pictured above) was a courtyard which is bordered by arches and domed ceilings.

To celebrate our anniversary we decided to have a week in Istanbul. Upon our arrival it did not disappoint. Our hotel room has a beautiful view of the Marmara Sea and a historic Blue Mosque. We will wake to the call of prayer each morning. We are looking forward to the interesting and exciting experiences this week has to offer (including great food).
